Looren Translation Grants 2012
In 2012 the Translation House Looren, with support from the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, will award four separate grants, each worth CHF 4'000.-.
Applications are invited from professional literary translators translating the work of a Swiss author from one of the four Swiss national languages – German, French, Italian and Rhaeto-Romanic – into Portuguese.
The Looren Translation Grants also serve as a means to acknowledge the excellence of a translator’s previous work.
Application deadline: April 10, 2012

The Looren Translation Grants
The Looren Translation Grants have been awarded annually since 2007 for projects translating works of Swiss literature. While the source languages—Switzerland’s four national languages: German, French, Italian, and Rhaeto-Romanic—always remain the same, the target languages vary from year to year. In this way, it is hoped that Swiss literature will be brought to as many different countries as possible.
When making its choice, the specialist jury looks primarily at the quality of the projects submitted; however, the prize is also intended as a tribute to the successful translator’s previous work.
