Translation House Looren

Translation House Looren offers translators from all nations a place to reside and work for a number of weeks. With us at Looren up to ten guests can fully devote themselves to their task and at the same time exchange experiences and ideas with other translators.

As the first institution of its kind in a country that, with its four national languages, has always been a land of translation, Translation House Looren sees itself primarily as a location for concentrated work. In addition, a program of events is intended to advance the profession of literary translation. With readings, workshops, and conferences we want to offer translators continuing professional support training and also encourage dialogue with a broader public.

A tradition of reading and writing characterizes the locality, which in former years was the site of the Albert Züst Publishing Company and a private home. The search for a new use for the building and the need for a center for translation in Switzerland converged at the right time. In December 2003 the non-profit organization Translation House Looren was founded and became the body legally responsible for the Translation House, which was officially opened in September 2005. A manager and a housekeeper promote a hospitable and inspiring working climate.
