Applications now open for the Looren Translation Grants 2010
Applications are invited from professional literary translators who are translating a work by a Swiss author into Spanish. The source language must be one of the Swiss national languages: German, French, Italian, or Rhaeto-Romanic.
Four translation grants will be awarded. The grants, each worth CHF 4000, are tied to a one-month stay at Translation House Looren.
The deadline for applications is April 15, 2010.
Subsidies from the Translation House Looren Association's Fund
You have the opportunity to apply for a subsidy from the funds of the Translation House Looren Association. We award CHF 350 per week for up to four weeks time. A subsidy can be received once every two years.
If a translator who has received a subsidy in the past applies for support for a new project, we reserve the right to ask for evidence that the previously supported work has now been published.
We ask all guests whose stay was funded to send us a short (one-page) report on their work.
You can apply at any time. Applications for a subsidy must be received by Translation House Looren at least one month before the beginning of the stay. Please provide written details on the following points:
- your previous published translations
- importance of your current translation project
- your motivation for wishing to stay at Translation House Looren
- any steps you have taken to obtain other funding (we appreciate if applicants also seek other funding sources)
Please submit your application for a subsidy by email, along with your application for the residency.
Support from the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia
As part of its collaboration with Translation House Looren, Pro Helvetia provides financial support for residencies for translators who are translating the work of a Swiss author, and for translators who are Swiss nationals or have been domiciled in Switzerland for at least two years. The same conditions apply as for the Translation House Looren Association's subsidies.
At the end of your stay, we ask for a ten-page text sample if the stay was supported by Pro Helvetia.
