Staying here

Translation House Looren offers literary translators residencies of several weeks to work on their projects. We welcome professional translators of all nationalities and language combinations. 

The house has seven single rooms and two double rooms, all with private bathrooms. All rooms are equipped with internet (WiFi and landline), though not telephones. There is a reference library tailored to translators’ needs, with a printer, photocopier, and scanner. A garden and a large living room are available for common use.

Applications

You can submit your application for a residency at any time. Provided we have free rooms, it is also possible to register at short notice. 

If you are applying for financial support, your application, together with all the required documentation, must reach us at least two months before your planned arrival.

To qualify for a residency with us, you must have published at least one substantial literary translation (we support first-time translators through our emerging translators programme, and you must have a valid publishing contract, signed by both parties, for the translation project you will be working on during your stay. 

Submitting your application 

Applications can only be submitted through the online form on our website. We can only process applications that include all the required documentation. Please note that different documents must be submitted, depending on the type of stay. Further information on documents required.

Residency fee

1-14 nights: 50 CHF in total
Longer stays: 100 CHF in total

The fee covers the weekly meal with other guests (voluntary) and photocopies, prints and scans. The one-off fee is paid in cash at the translation house. 

Books

We ask our guests to send us a copy of their translation for our library upon publication (please send two copies of works of Swiss literature). These go into our Looren Collection.
